Today under the direction of minister ad interim of the Physical Training and Sports of the Republic of Daghestan Magomed Magomedov a meeting on preparing for the Wrestling Championship of Europe was held. It should be reminded that the official program of the championship will be held in the Palace of Sports and Youth named after Ali Aliev in Kaspiysk from the 28th of April till the 6th of May. Competitions in freestyle, female and Greco-Roman wrestling will be held during these days. Continental grappling tournament also will be included in the championship’s program, it will start in the Ali Aliev Palace of Sports several days before the beginning of competitions among freestyle and classic wrestlers.
The question of preparing for the grappling tournament was the main at the meeting. Magomed Magomedov emphasized that these competitions must be organized on the highest level, as all the other tournaments of the championship.
In 2006 Fédération Internationale des Luttes Associées (FILA) started their project called grappling (wrestling in a tight T-shirt and shorts) and grappling-gui (wrestling in kimono).
Because of risk of eliminating wrestling from the program of the Olympic Games 2013, FILA excluded grappling from their structure. But after wrestling was successfully kept in International Olympic Committee, it was decided to return grappling to the program of reorganized federation – United World Wrestling (UWW). The key part in this matter was played by the president of Russian Wrestling Federation and vice-president of UWW Mikhail Gerazievich Mamiashvili and president of UWW Nenad Lalovich.
It should be noted that Russian grappling team, mostly consisting of Daghestanian grapplers, is the front runner for medals in the forthcoming Europe Championship.
